The Credit Union Movement
I've been lately thinking about what's been commonly referred to as "the Credit Union Movement." To me, that phraseology seems a little outdated and misplaced. Is there really much of a movement anymore? With the increased competition among Credit Unions and the growing prevalence of community charters and mergers, my thinking is that it's really a "Credit Union Industry" and we should just call it what it is.
And, just like in many other industries, Credit Unions should continue to band together to promote growth in our Industry. The Dairy industry is a good example. After all, a rising tide lifts all boats. Maybe it's just semantics but I just happen to think the word "movement" is naive and, again, outdated. Does anyone agree or am I just way out there?

When I give presentations I never know which to say, industry or movement as I get questioned in either direction. Here is a link to some good conversation on the topic: http://opensourcecu.com/articles/2006/10/4/what-movement
Thanks for that link, Doug. I wasn't paying attention to OpenSource CU back then and it was interesting to see that I was not alone in my wonderings on the topic. Your comments on the OpenSource blog, I thought, were spot-on.
